What we cover at a single visit
One visit to your address typically covers one to several documents in parallel. We bring the equipment in a single case and have it set up in 5 to 10 minutes. The shooting itself takes another 10 minutes, with 5 to 10 frames per document so the best one is guaranteed.
The countries and document types we routinely shoot

If your application uses a standard we do not list above, send us a screenshot of the consulate page when you book and we will reproduce the spec exactly.
Where we work in Moscow
We come to you. Most of our document-photo clients are at one of the following:
- Central Moscow hotels: Marriott Aurora, Lotte Hotel, Four Seasons, Ararat Park Hyatt, Hotel National, Hotel Baltschug Kempinski, Renaissance, Hilton Leningradskaya, Crowne Plaza Park Hotel, Korston, Holiday Inn Sokolniki, and similar.
- Serviced apartments: Citadines, Adagio, similar networks.
- Corporate offices: we shoot in meeting rooms or lobbies at international consultancies, IT vendors, embassies (when invited) and trade missions.
- Embassy waiting areas: for some categories we can shoot in the queue area outside an embassy, though indoor consulate rooms are not allowed.
- Co-working spaces: SOK, Cabinet Lounge, Workki, Workspace; we set up in a meeting room for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Hospital visits: for clients who cannot leave the bed (post-surgery, late-pregnancy bed rest, elderly relatives).
- Universities for international students: HSE, MGIMO, RUDN, MSU faculty for foreign students, MGU PIK programmes. We can do group visits at the dormitory or campus office.
Inside the Third Ring Road there is no travel surcharge. Outside the MKAD or for outer districts (Skolkovo, Mytishchi, Krasnogorsk, Khimki) we add a flat 1 000 to 2 000 ₽ to cover travel time.
How the visit works, step by step
- Book a slot on WhatsApp, Telegram or our contact form. Tell us the address, the documents you need photos for, and the time window. We confirm within 15 minutes.
- We arrive with a soft white or grey portable backdrop, two LED soft lights on stands, a full-frame camera and a dye-sublimation portable printer.
- Setup takes 5 to 10 minutes. The backdrop goes against a wall, the lights at 45-degree angles. We need a clear floor space of around 2 by 2 metres.
- The shoot itself is 5 to 10 minutes. You sit, look straight at the camera, neutral mouth. We take 5 to 10 frames per document.
- Editing and crop happens on the laptop on the spot: white-balance, gentle skin retouch only where required by the spec, crop to exact mm or px size.
- Print and email. Standard 2 to 4 matte prints per document, plus the digital file emailed in the file size the application portal requires.
Pricing for 2026
Pricing depends on the location, the number of documents, and any express surcharge. Standard mobile rate inside the Third Ring Road:

| Office or campus group (5 to 20 people) | matching format for badges, IDs and visas | from 400 ₽ per head | ~5 USD per head |
| Express visit (within 1 to 2 hours after booking) | standard kit + speed surcharge | 3 000 ₽ | ~33 USD |
| After-hours (after 9 p.m.) or holiday surcharge | any format | +30 percent | varies |

Why mobile document photos make sense for expats
- You skip the language barrier. Russian photo studios are fast and cheap, but explaining a specific spec ("50 by 50 mm for DS-160 with 240 KB file size") in Russian can be a struggle.
- You skip the queue. Studios on Tverskaya or near the metro on a Saturday have queues of 20 to 40 minutes.
- You get the right spec the first time. Our acceptance rate at major consulates is over 99 percent over the last 12 years. If a print is rejected on technical grounds, we redo it at our cost.
- You do not need to travel before the trip. Many clients are doing their photo the day before a flight or interview. Driving to a studio with the wrong outfit adds risk.
- One visit can cover several family members and several documents. A typical relocating family is now done in 40 minutes flat for the whole household, with all visas and Russian residence-permit photos at once.
How to prepare for the visit
- Wear a colour that contrasts with the required background. For a white background, dark or mid-tone clothing (navy, dark grey, deep colours) works best.
- Avoid loud patterns, large logos, hoodies and turtlenecks. They distort how the head looks against the backdrop.
- Plain make-up only. Heavy mascara and lipstick read as caricature in passport-size crops.
- If you wear glasses daily, keep them on but expect a couple of retakes to eliminate reflections. For US visas, glasses are not allowed at all.
- For babies, time the visit between feed and nap so the child keeps their eyes open and stays calm.
- Clear a 2 by 2 metre area against a wall. The wall can be a normal wall, we cover it with the backdrop.
Online verifiers we use to check the photo before delivery
Before we email the digital file, we run it through the same official online verifier the consulate uses. This catches any issue (head proportion, file size, format) before you upload to the portal. Our online verifiers in Russian (still useful as a reference for the same standards) cover several countries:
- USA visa photo verifier (DS-160 standard)
- Schengen visa photo verifier
- UK visa photo verifier
- Canada visa photo verifier
- China visa photo verifier
- India visa photo verifier
- Japan visa photo verifier
- UAE residence visa photo verifier
- Russian biometric passport photo verifier
- Russian driving licence photo verifier
Common reasons a consulate rejects a photo
Almost every rejection we have seen falls into one of the following categories. We design the shoot to eliminate every one of these.
- Wrong head proportion (head too small or too large in frame)
- Shadow behind the head from a poorly placed light
- Background not exactly the required colour (off-white instead of white, blue tint)
- Smiling, mouth open, eyes closed mid-blink
- Glasses reflection (only US allows glasses now; even then it is best to remove them)
- Hair across the face or covering ears (some countries require ears visible)
- File size or DPI does not match what the portal accepts
- Old photo: the rule is "taken in the last 6 months" almost everywhere
- Printed on glossy paper when matte was required
Detailed country-by-country specs
USA: DS-160 and Green Card lottery
The strictest digital spec we work with. The file must be exactly 600 x 600 pixels at 300 dpi, in JPEG format, under 240 KB in size. The head must occupy 50 to 69 percent of the image height. Background must be plain white, not light grey or cream. No glasses since November 2016. Photo must be taken within the last 6 months and reflect a recent appearance. The DV Lottery online uploader applies a strict head-proportion test that rejects roughly 30 percent of self-submitted photos; our acceptance rate at this verifier is over 99 percent.
Schengen visa
The Schengen standard applies across all 27 member states with very minor consular variations. Print size 35 x 45 mm, head height 32 to 36 mm chin to crown, plain light grey or white background. Some consulates (Germany, France) prefer light grey; others (Italy, Spain) accept white. We default to light grey because it is universally accepted. Taken within 6 months. No headwear except religious. Eyes open, mouth closed.
UK visitor and skilled worker visa
Print 45 x 35 mm plus digital file. Light grey or off-white background. Most UK applications happen through the official portal where both prints and digital are uploaded. Recent photo, neutral expression, no shadows behind head. Glasses allowed but must be clear (no tint), no reflection on lenses.
Canada visitor and IRCC online
Canada visitor visa uses a 50 x 70 mm printed photo with specific stamp requirements on the back of the print. Permanent residence online applications use a different digital spec. We can produce both formats during a single visit if you are doing both processes simultaneously. Plain white background, head height 31 to 36 mm.
China visa categories L, M, Z
33 x 48 mm print, white background, ears must be visible, hair pulled behind ears, no smiling. Digital file 354 x 472 px at 300 dpi. Some Chinese consulates also accept 35 x 45 mm prints. We default to the official 33 x 48 size to be safe.
Russian biometric passport (zagranpasport)
For online application through Gosuslugi, the file is uploaded in JPEG with specific resolution requirements. The Gosuslugi portal applies a face-detection check that rejects roughly one in five self-submitted photos. We use the official online verifier to confirm acceptance before delivery.
Russian residence permit (RVP and VNZh)
Print 35 x 45 mm on matte paper, white background. Four copies are typically required. Glossy paper is automatically rejected by the Migration Service (UVM) offices. We always print on professional matte paper.
Russian driving licence
Print 21 x 30 mm. Strict head proportions checked at the GAI office. White background. We deliver matte prints in this small format alongside the digital JPEG for the State Services portal.
India tourist and business visa
50 x 50 mm print, white background, forehead and chin both visible, ears visible. Digital JPEG under 1 MB. The Indian e-Visa portal has its own uploader; we produce the file to fit the portal limits exactly.
Japan tourist visa
35 x 45 mm print and JPEG. White or light grey background. No smiling, neutral expression, recent photo. The Japanese visa application centre in Moscow processes most categories.
UAE residence and tourist visa
40 x 60 mm print, white background, front view, ears visible. For residence permits there is also a separate online portal photo requirement which differs from the print. We can produce both.
South Korea, Singapore, Thailand and other Asian destinations
Most accept the standard 35 x 45 mm international photo with a plain white background. Some require a specific head-height range. Send us the consulate specification and we will adjust on the spot.
How a typical hotel visit unfolds
Here is a real schedule from a recent client week, anonymised. A family of four in Moscow on a 2-week visit needed several documents handled at the same time.
| Time | Step |
|---|---|
| 15:45 | Photographer arrives at the hotel reception, asks for the room number |
| 15:50 | Backdrop and lights set up in the suite living area |
| 16:00 | First member: husband, US tourist visa renewal |
| 16:08 | Second member: wife, Schengen visa for an upcoming trip to Italy |
| 16:15 | Third member: son age 12, biometric passport renewal |
| 16:25 | Fourth member: daughter age 4, child passport application |
| 16:35 | Editing and cropping on laptop, all four documents |
| 16:50 | Printing on portable dye-sublimation printer, four sets |
| 17:05 | Digital files emailed to the parents in the formats required by each portal |
| 17:10 | Payment in roubles by SBP transfer, photographer departs |
Total time: 1 hour 25 minutes for four documents. Doing the same work at four separate photo studios across Moscow would take at least a full day.
Group visits to office or campus
For larger groups (10 to 30 employees or students), we set up a pop-up studio in a meeting room or campus office for half a day. The whole group rotates through in 5 to 7 minute slots. Useful for:
- New office openings with multiple staff IDs and security badges
- International student arrivals in September at HSE, MGIMO, RUDN, MSU
- Conference badges for academic gatherings
- Mass visa applications for a corporate trip (sales kickoff, training week)
- Sports team or club photographs for league registration
For group visits the cost per head drops sharply, typically 400 to 800 ₽ per person depending on volume. Travel and setup is included in the day rate.
Same-day delivery for an emergency consulate appointment
About 15 percent of our document-photo bookings are urgent: the appointment is tomorrow morning, the photo upload is required tonight, or a flight leaves in the morning and one document is missing. Our standard response time for an urgent booking inside the Third Ring Road is under 2 hours from the call to arrival, sometimes under 1 hour. The express surcharge of 3 000 ₽ covers the speed but the print quality and acceptance guarantee are identical to a planned booking.
Email delivery of the digital file happens within 30 minutes of the visit ending. If you are uploading to a portal, you can complete the application the same evening.
Make-up, hair and attire that work for document photos
- Make-up: matte foundation, light coverage, no glitter, no shimmer. Bold eye make-up reads as artificial in a small head-shot crop
- Hair: off the face, ears visible for countries that require it. A small clip or hair band is fine
- Beard: well-groomed if you have one, otherwise clean-shaven. Stubble in transition between shaved and beard does not photograph well
- Earrings: small studs allowed, large hoops or dangly earrings can clash with the head crop
- Necklaces: avoid anything that would touch the chin or appear in the frame
- Tops: solid colours, no logos. Avoid pure white if the background is white; avoid black for elderly clients on white background (the crop can look harsh)
- Hijab and other religious head coverings: allowed for all major formats, must show face clearly
What we do not photograph at the same visit
To be clear about what is in and out of scope:
- We do not produce photos for fingerprints or biometric forms that require specialised equipment
- We do not produce official medical forms with stamp and signature; that is a separate service through a licensed doctor
- We do not handle the consulate or migration office submission for you; we deliver the photo, you submit
- We do not photocopy passports, IDs or supporting documents at the visit (you can do that at the hotel business centre)
- We do not write or translate cover letters or visa applications; for that work please use a licensed translation agency
Frequently asked questions
Do you guarantee acceptance?
For technical specs (size, background, file format, DPI, head proportions) yes. If a print or file is rejected on a technical ground we redo the photo at no cost. Subjective rejections (the consul thought you smiled too widely, you wore a scarf that read as headgear) are not covered, but we coach you during the shoot to avoid them.
Can you do baby photos for a US passport?
Yes. We use a soft white backdrop tent on the bed or sofa. The baby is held by a parent off-frame so only the head shows in the final crop. Each baby session typically takes 20 to 30 minutes to catch a frame with eyes open and a neutral mouth.
Do you work weekends?
Yes. Saturday and Sunday are standard pricing. New Year holidays (1 to 8 January) and major bank holidays carry a 50 percent surcharge.
Can you do my photo in the embassy area itself?
Inside an embassy or consulate building, no. Outside in the waiting area or in a nearby cafe, yes. For many consulates we do the photo at your hotel a few hours before the appointment and arrive with the prints ready.
Is the photo for the online DS-160 the same as the printed photo?
The size requirement is the same (50 by 50 mm, 600 by 600 px at 300 dpi, under 240 KB JPEG). The US no longer requires a printed photo for most appointments, only the digital upload. We deliver both anyway.
What if I do not speak English well either?
Most of our work in this category is fully in English with expat clients. We have also handled clients from Korea, China, India and Latin America with very limited English. The shoot itself uses few words.
Can you photograph more than one person at the same address?
Yes. Family visits and small group visits (employees, students) are some of the most common bookings. One trip, several photos, time saved.
Do you carry a printer or do you email everything?
Both. A dye-sublimation printer in the car gives us pharmacy-quality matte prints on the spot. The digital file is emailed within 30 minutes after the visit ends.
Can you do photos for an ID at my workplace?
Yes, that is one of our most common corporate jobs. Office team photoshoots take 10 to 20 minutes per person, set up once in a meeting room, run the whole team through the same backdrop. We deliver matched format files ready for the company HR system.
Is there a Russian version of this service page?
The original mobile document-photo service is documented across multiple Russian pages on the site. The most direct equivalent is fotograf na dom for document photos in Russian.
